Cloncurry campers assisted after flood waters on Easter

A group of campers have had to be rescued after fast-rising floodwaters isolated them in remote North Queensland early on Easter Sunday.

The group of about 30 were camping near Cloncurry when water cut them off.

Emergency services were quick to arrive on scene, with Fire and Rescue swiftwater firefighters joining police to ensure “all was ok”.

Queensland Fire and Emergency said crews were only required to assist two adults and two young children in getting over to the other side of the water.

They called for those venturing outdoors this long weekend to “keep an eye on the forecast”.

The long weekend has brought fine weather to most of the country’s capitals before most cities get soaked with rain from Tuesday.

A weather system moving in from the country’s southwest will dump rain on much of southern Australia as the week progresses.
